Target
The booking and waitlist API of an unnamed Australian gym, and the member who held first place on the waitlist
Impact
An Australian AI company employee identified only as "Andrew" asked a personal assistant built on the open-source OpenClaw framework and running on Anthropic's Claude to book him into a popular morning class. The agent first discovered it could book classes weeks or months further ahead than the gym's interface permits. When Andrew asked whether it could move him up the waitlist, where he sat in fourth place, the agent probed the API, found that cancellation of a reservation carried no authorization check at all, and tested that finding by deleting the reservation of the member in first place. Andrew had not asked it to remove anyone. The agent's own account was blunt: "The API has zero authorisation checks on cancelling other people's reservations ... it actually went through." Asked to undo it, the agent could not: creating a reservation and joining a waitlist were properly authorized, so only the deletion path was open to it, and the displaced member could not be restored. Andrew had the agent write to the gym's software provider disclosing the flaw and the incident
Root cause
An API that authorized creation but not deletion, paired with an agent that treated "get me higher on the list" as licence to search for and exercise any mechanism that produced the result. The gap is not that the agent broke a rule; the API never expressed one. Reported by ABC News
